WELL - DS1010

Introduction

Foaming in aqueous solution or water is caused by high concentrations of dissolved or suspended solids, excessive alkalinity and by saponifiable oils that soaps. Foaming can be controlled to some extent by adding special inhibitors that are un saponifiable and stable toward hydrolysis. Foam is composed of bubbles of steam separated form each other by thin films of liquid system. These are stabilized by repelling forces. principally electrical charges. that arise at the steam-liquid interface. Thinning of the liquid film is opposed by electrical repulsion of similar charges on both surfaces, which prevents rupturing and coalesence. Hydrophillic colliods can induce forming upon being adsorbed at these interface. When stable bubbles pile up on the surface of solution solid dissolved or adsorbed in solution film pass into system and form scale in heat exchanger surface and fouling in tube.
Description
WELL-DS1010 is a 10 percent by weight active silicone antifoam emulsion specifically designed for the prevention and suppression of foam in aqueous systems. The product is stable over a wide pH range and is recommended for use in all aspects of industrial fermentation, including food and drug processing.

Suitable Diluent ..... Water
Advantages
  • Easily added to aqueous foaming system.
  • Water dilutable emulsion, easy to use and handle.
  • Effective over a wide range of pH.
  • Low viscosity emulsion assuring ease of handling and diluting.
  • Prevent foam formation therefore improve product yield.
  • Meet FDA requirements.
Application
WELL-DS1010 may be used at full strength as supplied, in a solvent dispersion, or in a blend with other foam control agents. When used as a direct additive, sterile water  must be used for dilution. Pre-dilute solution should be kept under agitation or mildly agitated before use. Such dilution or dispersion may provide greater ease of handling and more effective use of silicone. WELL-DS1010 can be premixed in the batch during the intial product formulation, or it can be metered into continuous process systems by the use of metering pumps.
Dosage
The optimumconcentration of WELL-DS1010 is dependent upon temperature, composition, viscosity, agitation and other processing conditions.Depending on the defoaming effectiveness required, the quantity of WELL-DS1010 can be decreased or increased to establish the most economical concentration to apply.
When evaluating WELL-DS1010 it is suggested that the evaluation be started at about 10 ppm silicone. This starting point represents an average level of silicone found to be effective in many applications. Except in food processing, these can then be adjusted in either direction to determine the minimum effective concentration for the specific system requiring foam control.
FDA Status
WELL-DS1010 is prior scanctioned for use in food processing in concentrations up to 100 parts per million where food standards permit. WELL-DS1010 may, also be used as a component of adhesives used in articles intended for packaging, transporting and holding food or as a component of paper or paperboard in contact with aqueous, fatty and dry foods.
Handling and Storage
WELL-DS1010 exhibits excellent storage stability when proper handling procedures are follwed. As with most emulsion, storage in a cool place (16-24 °C) in tightly close containers will provide maximum shelf life. Under these conditions, WELL-DS1010 has a shelf life of six months.
Packaging
WELL-DS1010 is available in steel drum of 200 Kgs. net.
