P.A.S. Liquid Scale Inhibition

P.A.S. Liquid Scale Inhibition

Introduction
In sugar industry, during production season, deposits of inorganic scale in the evaporator cause inefficiency in heat transfer in evaporation. It is with high potential that scale found in the first body is phosphate and carbonate salts and that found in the last body si sulfate and silicate. Calcium sulphate and calcium silicate give hard, dense and impermeable scale. These cannot easily be removed in cleaning process. This "threshold effect" is the prevention of precipitation from super saturated solutions of scalants by ppm levels of inhibitor. However, one of the problems encountered with the polyphosphates is their instability with often leads to orthophosphate scale resulting from decomposition.
Description
P.A.S. used at high concentrations, in some instances, can sequester potential scale forming cations. At lower concentrations these same materials will allow precipitation but will prevent adherence by functioning as a dispersant and by altering the size of the crystal and/or preventing growth of nuclei.
P.A.S. is specially selected blend of surfactant, dispersant, sequestrant and chelating agent for inhibiting especially sulphate and silicate scale in the last body evaporators. Its inhibiting property is still effective at temperature up to 250 °F and at all pressure. It is soluble at all proportion to water, non foaming and particularly resistant to hydrolysis.
Function of P.A.S.

  • Form strong substitution inert chelate bond with calcium ions present at kinks and dislocations on the crystal surface which make it superior calcium  sulphate and calcium silicate scale inhibitors.
  • Exhibit the threshold effect. This occurs when P.A.S. coats the micro-crystalline nuclei, and inhibits their growth, preventing the formation of large particles and maintaining the particles in solution at concentration above the normal precipitation level.
  • Prevent adherence onto metal surface.
USE of P.A.S.
The vacuum from evaporator is used to suck P.A.S. diluted solution into the feed line at appropriate rate. The flow rate is adjusted by control valve.
Dosage
  • Feed 2-3 ppm based on clarified juice to the last effect evaporator.
  • Feed 2-3 ppm based on clarified juice to the second last effect evaporator.
Advantages
  • Prolong the operation period before cleaning.
  • Improve heat transfer.
  • Minimize scale formation.
  • Scale is soft and easily removed.
  • Reduce cleaning time.
  • Economical treatment cost.
Precaution
P.A.S. is non toxic to skin and eye. However avoid contact with eye is recommended and in case of contact, flush eye thoroughly with water.
Packaging
P.A.S. is packed in lined steel drum of 250 Kgs. net.
