The climbing film Long Tube Evaporator has many advantages over conventional alternatives such as Roberts, Kestner and falling film evaporators. These include:
• Heat transfer coefficients better than Roberts
• Low juice retention time, reduce sucrose loss. Even with large vessels of, say, 5500 m2 heating surface area, retention time is <5 minutes, vs >15 minutes in Roberts. This is particularly important in high temperature first and second vessels of an evaporator train where sucrose degradation losses can be high. A first effect LTE can save up to 0.06% of losses (which equates to 60 tons of sugar p.a. for a 100000 tpa sugar factory).
• Can be cleaned by mechanical cleaning.
• No supporting steelwork is required – it stands on a small foundation.
• Small footprint.
• Supply with high performance entrainment separator which easily access and need no maintenance.
